Migrating from Squarespace

Squarespace Looks Fine. Underneath, It's Costing You.

We measured a real Squarespace site at 73 to 94 percent duplicate content per page, with the wrong ZIP code in its schema and missing H1s. We rebuilt it pixel-faithful in one day and engineered every one of those problems out.

No account access needed until launch day.

Pretty pages, broken foundation.

Squarespace sells design, and it delivers design. What it doesn't deliver is control: the structured data on your pages is auto-generated and can't be edited or removed, robots.txt is locked, and there's no native support for the FAQ and rich-result schema types that win modern search features.

Every Squarespace page also carries a mandatory 200 to 400KB JavaScript bundle: the editor runtime, animation libraries, gallery loaders, loaded whether your page uses them or not. That's why mobile Core Web Vitals scores on the platform cluster around 30 to 55 while hand-built sites score green.

And because templates repeat the same blocks on every page, Google can see most of your site as duplicate content. We measured exactly that on a client's Squarespace site before rebuilding it.

The Squarespace Ceiling

Documented platform limitations, researched August 2026. None of these are fixable from inside Squarespace.

Schema you can't touch

Squarespace auto-generates your structured data and gives you no way to edit or remove it. If it's wrong (we found the wrong ZIP code in a client's), it stays wrong. FAQ and other rich-result schema types aren't supported natively at all.

A speed ceiling you can't fix

Every page loads the platform's 200 to 400KB JavaScript bundle regardless of what the page needs. No optimization plugin or setting removes it, because it is the platform.

Duplicate content by design

Template blocks repeat across every page. On Rip City Construction's Squarespace site we measured 73 to 94% duplicate content per page, quietly suppressing rankings they'd earned over a decade.

robots.txt is locked

No granular crawl control, no advanced redirect management, limited heading hierarchy control on many templates. The technical SEO layer is take-it-or-leave-it.

Custom code is gated

Real code injection requires higher-priced plans, and even then there's no serverless support: no way to run custom AI tools, calculators, or lead pipelines inside your site.

Limited export

Squarespace exports some content as XML, but not your design, layouts, products, or most of what makes your site yours. A real migration means rebuilding, which is what we do.

How We Clone Your Site, Without Your Password

Your public website is the blueprint. We never need your Squarespace login; the only credential involved is your domain registrar, once, at cutover.

  1. 1

    We crawl your public website

Everything we need is already public: every page, image, font, color, and behavior is captured with browser automation, the same way a visitor's browser sees it. No login, no admin access, no password sharing.

  2. 2

Pixel-faithful rebuild into your own GitHub repo

Your site is rebuilt page-by-page as a hand-written Next.js codebase in a private GitHub repository that belongs to you. Faithful replica or full redesign, your call. Rip City Construction was a 17-page pixel-faithful replica; Bathroom Surface Solutions was a 52-page rebuild.

  3. 3

SEO remediation and full schema stack

The rebuild fixes what the platform couldn't: complete LocalBusiness and Service schema, canonical architecture, duplicate-content cleanup, redirects mapped for every URL. Your rankings, reviews, and backlinks keep working untouched.

  4. 4

Deployed on Vercel, then DNS cutover

The finished site deploys to Vercel's global edge network and you review a live preview first. The only credential we ever need is your domain registrar, once, at cutover. Zero downtime.

Where Your New Site Lives

Every migration lands on Vercel, the infrastructure built by the makers of Next.js. What that buys you:

Nothing to hack

A static site has no server-side code, no database, and no plugins: the three things virtually every hacked small-business site gets breached through. There is no WordPress admin panel to brute-force because there is no admin panel.

Nothing to patch

No plugin updates, no PHP version upgrades, no theme conflicts, no maintenance retainer just to keep the site alive. The code that ships is the code that runs, unchanged, until you ask for a change.

Speed measured at the edge

Every page is prerendered and served from Vercel's global CDN, milliseconds from your customer. Fast pages feed Core Web Vitals, which Google uses as a ranking signal, and they convert better on phones.

Instant rollback

Every deployment is immutable and kept. If anything ever looks wrong, the previous version is one click away. Try that on a page builder.

Preview every change

Every edit gets its own private preview URL before it touches your live site. You approve changes by looking at them, not by hoping.

Enterprise defaults, small-business price

Automatic HTTPS, DDoS protection, and global failover come standard on Vercel. Hosting for a typical client site runs free to a few dollars a month, not a $30+ builder subscription forever.

Every Squarespace migration starts with a free visibility scan of your current site.

You own 100% of everything.

The code, the content, the design, the domain, the hosting account. If you ever walk away, everything walks with you. No rental websites, no hostage platforms, no “you can’t take it with you.” Period.

How we price

We price like contractors, not consultants: a fixed scope at a fixed price, in writing, before work begins. Half upfront, half at launch.

The price depends on page count and whether you want a faithful replica or a full redesign, which is exactly what the free audit determines. After launch, hosting typically runs free to a few dollars a month: no builder subscription, no maintenance retainer.

  • Fixed scope, fixed price
  • In writing before work
  • No open-ended retainers

Straight Answers

Looks aren't the problem. Rip City Construction's site looked fine too, while 73 to 94% of every page was duplicate content and its schema had the wrong ZIP code. We can keep your design pixel-faithful and rebuild only the foundation underneath it.

Only partially: some content exports as XML, but your design, layouts, and site structure don't. That's why our pipeline rebuilds from the public site instead, capturing everything a visitor sees.

No. Everything on your public Squarespace site is captured from the outside, the same way any visitor's browser sees it. The only credential we ever need is your domain registrar, once, when we flip DNS at launch.

No. Migration engineering is the core of what we do: every URL preserved or redirected, analytics continuity maintained, structured data upgraded. Your Google Business Profile, backlinks, and citations keep working untouched.

Yes. Rip City Construction was a pixel-faithful replica of their old site with the technical foundation rebuilt underneath. Faithful replica or full redesign, your call, and you review everything on a private preview before it goes live.

You do: the code in your own GitHub repo, the content, the domain, the hosting account. If you ever leave, everything goes with you. No hostage situations, no rental websites.
